Well we are back in Montana and it’s dry and so is my nose, so dry I was up at 3:30 to put some water in it.
06:30 He’s up playing with his watch. I’ll get into the washroom before he does and then get everything else ready before he’s done. It’s so much easier when TJ travels with me as she does half the work and double-checks everything for me.
I went out to check and pack the bike and get ready to blast for home. We are looking at about 8 hours of riding today.
We decide to go to McDonalds for the big breakfast with pancakes and then we will go back to the hotel to put on the gear to fight the cold.

It’s 64F this morning but it’s better than yesterday and no rain or humidity. Thanks God!
I have to tell you there is something special about Montana I just love this state it’s like coming home. It’s wide open, clean and beautiful. The Motels along Hwy 2 in Montana are not known for their excellence but this Cottonwood Inn is a good one.
My uncle Bob was telling us about the awful drive they had along Hwy 2 in Montana and in the past we have dreaded driving Hwy 2 but I have to say it has greatly improved and it was great to ride on. There was very little traffic, the road was smooth and the speed limit of 70 is plenty.
Look at the wide open sky, Big Sky Country. When we crossed the border into Alberta it looked exactly the same, huge open sky. I love seeing the Rockies for the first time I am always in awe of their beauty and how perfect God made them.
And God said, “Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear.” And it was so. . . So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living and moving thing with which the water teems, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. — Genesis 1:9, 21
And God saw that it was “good.” It sure is — especially when you have an ocean-front view!
Grasp that for a moment. The sea, the sand, the rocks, the birds, the fish, the waves — God created every detail. Every molecule, every grain, every crevice, feather, and gill — He made the entire scene… And then, He went even further: He gave us His Son, who provided a way for us to live forever. What an awesome God we serve.
We took the ring road around Calgary which is a lot further to avoid the Deerfoot Trail traffic jam and I dropped my Dad off at 18:00 and I was home by 18:20.
What a great time I had visiting friends and family across the country and as always wished I could have spent more time with them. I saw places I have never seen and eaten things I wished I hadn’t. Overall it was a good ride across our huge continent of North America.
Total mileage 10,270 miles or 16,528 kms
Things you need to know or should have if you are going to travel across the country on a motorcycle with and 81-year-old:
- Build Patience. You will need it.
- Make sure they are fit to travel. Can he or she get on and off a motorcycle easily. If they cannot get on after you do be prepared to be dragging your foot on your seat and doing the one foot hop off procedure. Do they have good hearing, if not be prepared for hearing “EH” a lot. Do they have good eyesight. If not be prepared to do everything.
- If you do long days of riding be prepared for them to go to sleep as soon as you get into the motel room even if they just ate. Their snoring will distract you while doing your blog and keep you from falling asleep.
- Be prepared for an early wakeup due to them going to bed so early the night before. If possible get your own room.
- Can he or she stand on one leg for a long period of time. A must for putting on and taking off a rain suit.
- Is he or she able to withstand long periods of silence just to enjoy Gods creation and the ride.
- Is he or she able to follow this simple instruction; If you can’t be kind, Be quiet.
- If possible take a tongue talking, devil stomping, Holy Ghost filled believer. You will have someone to share with, you will have someone to partner with against the enemy, favor will be with you where ever you go and whatever you do, you will have a prayer partner that God hears and you will never be bored.
I’m sure I’ll think of more so check back later.
Thank You to all our friends who have been praying for us during our trip and throughout the year Your prayers have made a difference.
