674 mi — about 12 hours, 26 mins
06:15 we are both awake with six hours of sleep and Dad says “5:40”.
“Huh I reply I’ve got 6:15”
Apparently his talking watch is on moon time.
So he tries an electric shaver he has but it just makes a weird noise and he asks me to look at it. LOL it looks like the heads are all busted. New blades needed Dad.
Next he comes with a can of shaving cream he just bought. He has the lid in his hand and the can with just the stem sticking out. “is this thing broken”
“Ah no the press lever is stuck in the cap” After a few minutes of battle I free the press lever part of the top and when I go to press it on the stem I shot shaving cream all over the motel phone and desk.
Dad does manage to finally get his shave done. Ah humour first thing in the morning.
My bag is still in the bike so I sneak out to grab it and after a quick spruce up I look out and he is sitting on the bed with his coat and boots on ready to go. 81, he has had little sleep and he’s ready for breakfast. Amazing.
We had a great room at The Sunset Motel

Well we walk over to the Golden Arches and Dad wants his big breakfast. “If we have breakfast maybe we can skip lunch”.
I don’t know about you but if I eat too much at lunch I get sleepy so when riding I like something light and quick.
Here’s what he ordered;
“My coffee isn’t hot” second day with luke warm coffee he’s not happy, oh the second one was too hot. LOL
Back to the room for the loading and bike check.
Now normally my partner checks for all charging devices bags etc, but she’s not with me so I have to do the triple check to make sure I don’t forget anything.
Dad switch from the backpack to stuff sacks so he now has his own two bags that go in the right saddle bag. Hopefully we won’t leave them.
Okay it’s now almost 7:30 and we planned a long day, almost 13 hours of riding. Guess who will be sitting in the bathtub tonight.
If you remember yesterday we commented on the lack of trees. Well today we rode through upper Minnesota and saw millions of trees. Our ride for almost six hours looked like this;

I have to say the weather is beautiful. Sunny with a few clouds and 75F perfect riding weather.
Besides fuel stops we ride on through Winnipeg down past Steinback the home of the Toronto Maple Leafs super goalie James Reimer then down through Thief River falls home of Arctic Cat and then eastbound on Hwy 2.
I started to get hungry west of Duluth Mn and while driving through town I spotted an Old Country Buffet. I asked if it was ok and Dad didn’t care. We lockup the bike and trailer and beat the dinner rush by eating at 15:45.
Dad sampled the roast beef and steak, while I tried the turkey. I have to say for $11.79 it was a good buy. Good selection and plenty of breads etc.

Plenty of paving delays along the way takes it toll on your ETA and if you booked a room you have no choice but to press on. Well that’s it I’m not booking ahead. There’s been plenty of empty motels along the way.
I try to pick motels because it’s easier for my Dad to come and go as he can find the door right in front of the bike and doesn’t have to struggle to see a room number etc.
Here’s our first view of Lake Superior

Plenty of cottages, a few small villages and Indian Reservations are scattered across the top of Minnesota.
We rode till 22:00 pitch black and the bugs were so bad I thought it was raining. I cleaned the windscreen and two minutes later it was full.
Of course a bug landed in my right eye so I was rubbing and tearing up for the last few miles. It’s tough riding in the dark covering the brake lever just incase Bambi tries to violate us.
I do believe that God provides protection for us especially for fools who book a room that causes them to travel too far in one day. Oh I know some of you know that I am His favorite. Yeah that’s right, don’t be jealous just except it.
We passed the Police going quite a few digits over the 55mph limit and he didn’t tun around. Favor, I love it. Living in the FOG (favor of God) even when I’m dumb. I did slow down. For a little while.
I have only seen one small antelope and one small deer and both were in Saskatchewan. I have seen plenty of unattractive women. Oh Ok yeah I’m bad for saying so but really, some of them scared me.
Well we drove all through Marquette and finally found our ABVI motel/hotel. Not bad for $88.00 USD a little dated but clean and good bed and pillows.
22:40 Dad is soaking himself in the tub. He is amazing for his age. He is a little stiff and has trouble getting his leg over the seat when getting on but other than that he seems happy. He never bothered to get off on the last fuel stop and the stairs at the motel were a challenge but he’ll still be ready to go early in the morning.
I promise to take more scenic shots tomorrow. Too many trees and not much of anything else today sorry about that.
Tomorrow we get to visit the Yoopers for some Pasties, I can’t wait.
It’s 12:30 and I can’t think straight, I’ll edit in the am, check back then.
