Well I think I went to Columbia quicker than it took me to fly back to Sydney from Calgary.
My flight out of Calgary ran so far behind that I missed the connection into Sydney out of Toronto. Air Canada paid for a room, meals and transfers but I had to go through security all over and wait for a connection in Halifax but at least Bob and Lin didn’t have to come out in the middle of the night.
My first week back from Columbia I spent enjoying the company of my dear friends in Sydney and the heat and humidity was unbelievable.
I arrived back in Sydney at 14:00 on Sunday Aug 16 and Bob and Lin were there to pick me up. Al & Judy were there waiting for Al’s son to arrive so at least they had someone to talk to.
Bob and Lin took me to my reserved suite in their house and then up to Maurice & Barbs for a dip in the pool and a BBQ.
Bob said they had to turn a number of people away from my suite due to its popularity. I have to say I’m blessed.
I have spent the last two weeks going between Sydney and Cape North which is roughly a two-hour ride through twists and turns along with some dips and cracks. The Cabot Trail needs paving bad.
We were very fortunate to have a number of good days to enjoy in and along Maurice and Barbs pool.
Following the afternoon of pooling these wonderful people then forced me to eat BBQ and desserts until I was full.

I suffered all of this in an effort to improve east-west relations especially with Leroy who seems to enjoy picking on me.

As many of you know I sometimes deserve it but I would think there would be a little slack available for someone from away.
Nope constant teasing especially after I make a stupid mistake. My biggest one this year so far was talking to a guy at the pumps and fueling the bike with diesel.
Yep filled it up with clean diesel and then spent on of the nicest days of the summer draining it out. Yep my pal Maurice stayed and helped me at the Gas station on one of the hottest days when he could have went pooling. What a great guy. Bob came by and offered encouraging words and Barb just laughed when they picked me up and then gave me one of those “ah poor Everette”.
Even Bob and Lin teased me which is a clear indication of being way too familiar with these Sydney Bible banditos.
Leroy’s wife Charlene is the only one who didn’t say anything about my foolish mistakes. She is very kind and as a teacher very accustomed to dealing with the challenged.
We had such a great time-sharing laughing and dining.
These people are such kind people and always ready to help anyone in need even someone from Calgary.
Maurice and I got to do a brake job and headlight bulb replacements along with a wasp killing expedition or should I call it a production.
Lin wanted a little garden beside their house weeded and then have some landscaping cloth and rocks spread on it.
Well while I attempted to do this I came upon a wasp nest in the under the porch at the corner of the house.
At first I thought it was just a bunch of bugs but once stung I realized I had covered their nest.
Shortly after getting everything done we started to notice wasp in the house and after killing about two hundred Maurice decided this required a more aggressive approach.
I left Sydney on Thursday to go up north. On the way back I stopped and picked up some
for my fathers shortcake.
When I got to Earl’s I was informed I needed to install a hot water tank and a pressure switch in Earl’s basement. It’s cold, wet and smelly down there but I had no choice.
While I was up in Cape North Maurice dug up the corner and removed siding and foam insulation do he could spray directly into the nest.
When I returned to Sydney for church on Sunday I was informed of the mess Lin’s new rock garden was in.
Apparently Maurice was leaving the area open to make sure the wasps were gone.
Since I already received my thank you dinner, pie and ice cream my concern was not as great as Lin’s for the condition of the garden.
My father came to Sydney with me and once again Bob n Lin were gracious to give us the use of their private suite.
We so enjoy being with these folks that I’m sure we stay too long and become a pain and of course they would never say anything.
On the way to Sydney we had some low cloud and a little rain.

We stopped and picked up a warm strawberry rhubarb pie for dessert.

Bob BBQ us some chicken breasts, potatoes and Lin made some corn it was yummy.

The next day we dropped by our friend Lester Tingley’s office on Boulandrie Island on morning and had a four-hour chat with him.

Lester owns a survey company and we have known it other since we were kids and I haven’t seen him in four years so we had lots to say. Look at all the equipment he has to have.

On the way back to Sydney from Lester’s my father had me go by where he went to school on Boulandrie Island. This is the old schoolhouse.

The next day Bob n Lin took us for a tour of Whitney Pier, New Waterford, Glace Bay and a bunch of small places in between. Then we went out to lunch to celebrate Lin’s last radiation treatment.
Here is the Newfoundland ferry.

Bob n Lin knew of this little spot called Colette’s in Glace Bay and I have to say it was good. Fair prices and real good food.
Bob and I had the fisherman’s platter and Dad & Lin had the Turkey dinner. Both were very good but the deep-fried ice cream for dessert was the best.

I knew we were in the right spot when I saw this:

This week we stayed in Sydney until Wednesday and after spending the morning with our dear friends we had to say our goodbyes as we plan on heading back to Calgary this weekend and Bob n Lin are going on a road trip of their own.
We stopped at the Cedar House for some seafood chowder and fish and chips.

Englishtown from the Kelly’s Mountain lookout.
I’m sitting outside the grave yard in front of Earls stealing the internet from someone to do this and I’m being eaten alive by bugs I’ll have to finish this later. Bye
Not much to do at Earl’s besides cook and clean so I took the opportunity to ride to Bay St Lawrence, Neil’s Harbour, Ingonish Pleasant Bay and Cheticamp.
I took a ride to Ingonish and went to the Brookside Take Out. My brother in law use to take me there when I was a kid for a burger just before it closed at 10:00pm. Well the burger is a little smaller but tastes just the same and of course costs three times as much.

I went to Cheticamp today and the Pharmacy was having a Renovation Celebration serving Hot Dogs, Cupcakes, Squares and Drinks ah yah have to love free food.

The weather is a little cooler this weekend and the humidity is down making sleeping a little better.
I stopped by my brother in law Dave’s place and we sat in his gazebo until we got cold last night which was around 9:00pm. We continued our chat inside until 11:00 with TJ taking part on FaceTime.
We plan on making some ice cream today (Saturday) and if the weather is good we will leave tomorrow and possibly drive the coast of mainline Nova Scotia.
