Day 6
Segment: 319 miles — about 5 hours 49 minutes
05:05 I guess we both went to bed early. Looking out the window I’m trying to figure out the weather. It’s dark but I think it’s clear or is it so overcast that I think it is hard to tell I’ll have to go outside.
Our room was reasonable, nothing fancy but clean until we finished with it. All for $125.00
I need to stop somewhere and buy Earl a birthday gift of chocolates and something else. I think maybe New Glasgow will work. TJ searched and found a place there so I think that will be the first stop.
08:00 The mall doesn’t open until 09:30 so we are forced to buy at Walmart.
The weather is overcast and cool but no rain. I decide to go up Hwy 19 taking us up the west side of the island.
Here’s our first view of Nova Scotia

10:45 Stop for breakfast in Harbourview near Judique and Port Hood on Cape Breton Island after seeing a sign for all day breakfast and bakery.
We ordered eggs fish cakes with chow oatmeal dressing and homemade toast.
I asked the young lady who is serving us what the small lump of brown stuff is on my plate and she explains it’s an Scottish dressing that is served with fishcakes made from oatmeal. Humm it doesn’t have any taste so it stays on my plate.

During our meal dad strikes up a conversation with to fellows that are seated next to us. They are from Cape Breton and know friends and relatives from around the island.
The bake goods look so good I bought some cinnamon rolls to go.
We make our way around the west side of the island up through Port Hood, Margaree and eventually Cheticamp where we plan a stop for their famous butterscotch pie.
Now here is something that is becoming rare on Cape Breton Island, the family farm. It’s hard to find a working farm or an animal on the island anymore this one is located just past Port Hood.
Margaree River famous fly fishing for trout

Our first stop was the Gabriel restaurant and they told us they haven’t served butterscotch pie in years but if we try the Evangeline they may have some.

Sure enough we find pie, oh what delicious pie at $5.45 a slice.

The ride from Cheticamp is beautiful but today it’s wet and we are experiencing battery problems on the GoPro. Yep, I can’t find a battery that’s charged that’s a problem. I need to return to this side for photos.
We arrive at Earl’s at 14:45, what a great trip 3730 miles in 5 and a half days with miles per gallon from as high of 57 to as low as 46.
Earl is going to play us a tune.
Earl comes outside to feel the motorcycle and see how it fits

Well it was a great ride across the country with many challenges but it was fun. We will be here for a month and then head back to Calgary so stand by.
